Located in Gatika, in the Uribe region, halfway between Bilbao and San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, this neo-Gothic castle is surrounded by a beautiful century-old forest in an idyllic space with native and exotic species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This castle has become a must-see when it comes to visiting Bizkaia for the first time.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

History<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The origins of the building take us back to the Middle Ages, where there was a tower house of the \u201cButr\u00f3n\u201d family. Later, it was converted into a castle by the V Lord of Butr\u00f3n, in the middle of the 14th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the years passed, this fortress deteriorated and remained practically abandoned until the 19th century. It was then that under the orders of the architect Francisco de Cubas the castle was completely renovated leaving the present appearance of a stately appearance that reminds us of a fortress taken from a fairy tale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GR 280<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of the routes that runs through the region of Uribe takes us to this wonderful place. 
This is stage 2 of GR280, which connects the towns of Plentzia and Gorliz with Gamiz-Fika.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
