FILE OF THE ROUTE:
Duration: 2 hours 29 min
Distance: 5,97 km
Cumulative elevation gain: 161 m
Difficulty: Easy
It is a short route, almost six kilometers long through places close to Gorliz, which includes a small stretch unknown to us and which connects (only on foot) two inexplicably disconnected areas of Gorliz, if not for this small, hidden and short trail. It is the connection between the Guzurmendi area and the entrance road to Gorliz, the BI 3154 in front of the old slaughterhouse.
As always, we leave from the surroundings of Iberreta Plaza, today specifically from the small square at the end of Iberre Zeharbide. I am going with my two “Catalan” grandchildren (although both are of Basque origin and know Basque), Nahia, seven years old and Telmo, who will be three in a few days, and who are spending a few days with aitite and amama in Gorliz. My initial intention was not to do this route today, but a somewhat longer one, however, I think we have left an interesting walk for its simplicity and for being suitable for all audiences. We’ve already kicked two parts of it before.
To begin with, we want to go to Saratxaga, specifically to Arriolane by a different route than usual. This is where we came back on the “Ruta 2 Gorliz with children”, but today we are going out, which is always different. We’re going down the road called Errementari bidea, behind the cemetery. To do this we cross Iberreta plaza up to the top and when we reach the roundabout of the boat we cross the zebra pass located at the bow of the fishing boat and we get between the first chalets. We turn right almost immediately and make a kind of revolt in front of a couple of chalets or three and turn right for Errementari bidea. There’s a sign that says so.
From here to Arriolane there is no chance of loss. Just follow the road, which at its beginning passes behind the cemetery and next to a parking lot. I pass by some beautiful and well-kept farmhouses until I reach another large farmhouse with goats and horses grazing on a meadow and loose hens, as well as a few sheep and many cows. After a bend we reach the Saratxaga road. Turn left and immediately right to go between the hamlets of the neighborhood that gives its name to the Arriolane brewery. We passed by some very nice houses and hamlets, until we immediately reached a detour to the left where you can see on a pole a poster with a map and the numbers of the hamlets, I imagine that so that the postman does not read. We take a left and a few meters back to the right, passing in front of the facade of a villa and reaching a bifurcation. Follow the road on the right, the one that climbs next to a well-kept vineyard. As the slope is steep, to save time and make it faster I climb Telmo to the special backpack portaniños, and of course, it weighs pretty.
We have already come here on the “Route 6 of Gorliz with children”, but in that case we came from the old Saratxaga brewery. The road now ascends on a long stretch that in a first stretch reaches a beautiful villa and after a S-bend it continues upwards on a road paved with two lanes for the wheels of the cars. At the top of the hill, at the height of a small house surrounded by a fence with several dogs, the road ends and turns to the right. There is a white arrow in an eucalyptus that marks the path to the Orabille–Andraka road. Today, as on Route 6, we turn right to reach the Plentzia-Mungia road, which we cross directly
We follow the path without deviating at any time. Soon we reach another clearing where it turns clearly to the right to get into a eucalyptus. The path is no longer such, but it is a clear path that at first descends a little and then flattens. At all times we hear the main road very close. We passed in front of the entrances to two estates with doors in their respective enclosures. After the first you can hear dogs barking and after the second you can see some greenhouses. The wide road descends little by little under the oaks until you reach the big roundabout of the Mungia road.

We continue a little ahead and already on the descent of Guzurmendi we pass by a park under a pine forest located to our right with numerous benches. I see you’ve arranged and urbanized this whole area very well. We reach the road that crosses a little further down and turn right to, next to a beautiful chalet with pediment and tennis court, go down through Gentilbaso to Ametzaga Bidea. On the right we go a wire fence from side to side of the road to prevent the passage of vehicles, but there is a side step to pass by walking. That’s where we went..
This street, which ends immediately, would theoretically have to reach by bypassing the chalets to the road General BI 3154, ending in the same road in front of the old slaughterhouse. It would be logical, but it’s not. The road by which we go down is phenomenally urbanized, with streetlights, wide sidewalks, trash cans, zebra crossings, signposting, etc. . , even a cemented walk with benches a little further down. But both end and are cut drastically in front of the fences, walls and fences of two chalets that signal the usual: “Private property. Do not pass. ” I don’t give credit. How is it possible to disbursement size to make a beautiful road that leads to nowhere?, only to bump into a fence, even if it is private?
I do not resign myself to being prevented even from walking and scrutinize possible steps towards Ametzaga bidea and the main road. The kids follow me a little strange. After a while I find a little path at the top. Eureka, I say to myself, I found it. I remember that on Route 21 of Gorliz I had to turn around.
In fact, right next to where it ends abruptly cut the new road insinuates into the ground, to the right, a small path that under the trees surrounds the fence of the farmhouse located above, with some werewolves that bark slyly and frighten the children, thankfully the separation fence. Soon we arrive at the entrance of the farms and orchards of the houses of Ametzaga bidea further away from the main road to which the road that reaches it gives service.
We go along it to the junction in front of the entrance of the old slaughterhouse and turn left to reach immediately the roundabout of the boat and go down Iberreta plaza to the point from which we left a little more than two hours ago.
In short, we have made a small route close to the town center of Gorliz, walking along interesting and little frequented paths, but very interesting, and that we can make it any morning the whole family with our creatures.
